How we make money
A bookkeeping company should be able to account for itself. Evenbooks has two sources of revenue and no others.
1. The paid plan
$15 a month, or $150 a year, per company. It removes the payment-fee share below and lets up to 20 people work in one company. Nothing else changes: the free plan has every feature.
2. A share of online payments on the free plan
When a customer pays a free-plan invoice online, the business pays one all-in rate: 5% on cards, 1% on bank debits. Stripe takes its published fee (2.9% + 30¢ on cards, 0.8%, capped at $5 on bank debits) out of that rate, and Evenbooks keeps what is left. If Stripe’s fee alone exceeds the rate, we keep nothing. On the paid plan we keep nothing, ever.
Computed with the product's own fee function. Stripe's fees are its published US rates.
Card
- Stripe keeps
- $14.80
- Evenbooks keeps
- $10.20
- Free plan, you pay
- $25.00 (5%)
- Paid plan, you pay
- $14.80
Bank transfer
- Stripe keeps
- $4.00
- Evenbooks keeps
- $1.00
- Free plan, you pay
- $5.00 (1%)
- Paid plan, you pay
- $4.00
On the free plan the rate is all-in: Stripe's fee is included in the 5% or 1%, not added on top. On very small charges Stripe's fixed 30¢ can exceed the rate, and then Evenbooks keeps nothing. Non-standard Stripe fees (international cards, currency conversion, disputes) are passed through.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no “partner offers”, no selling or sharing of your financial data.
- No feature tiers. Reports, bank feeds, invoicing and payments are in the free plan.
- No markup on things others charge for. Bank feeds use SimpleFIN Bridge, an independent service you subscribe to directly for about $1.50 a month. Evenbooks earns nothing from it.
- No investors to satisfy. Evenbooks is paid for by the two lines above.
What we commit to
- The price is on the page
- One paid plan at one price. The fee math is public, and it’s the same code that charges you. No higher tier is holding back the reports you need.
- Your books are yours
- Every report exports as CSV. Leave whenever you want and take everything with you.
- The source is open to read and run
- Anyone can read the code. You can run it on your own server for your own company, free, for as long as you like.
- If we ever close, the code opens
- It’s written into the license. If we ever shut down the hosted service, the code is released under Apache 2.0. Your books never depend on us staying around.
